There are many options of captaincy in the Indian team at the moment and for the coming years also new stars are being prepared for this responsibility.
Rishabh Pant has not captained Team India yet, but recently he handled this in the IPL.
Many new and best talented cricketers have been entered in the Indian cricket team in the last few years. In the sports department, Team India has many options at the moment, which will replace the current veterans in the coming years and like this, they will wave the flag of success. Something similar is also about the captaincy. Virat Kohli is currently captaining Team India in all three formats, while Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane handle these responsibilities well in his absence. There are many options for the future too and one of them is wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant, in which former Indian cricketer Saba Karim has a glimpse of MS Dhoni’s captaincy.
The 23-year-old young star, who has secured a place in Team India for all three formats in the last few months, was recently given the captaincy of Delhi Capitals just before IPL 2021. Pant, who was captained after Shreyas Iyer’s injury, did well and the team was pushed to the top of the points table until the tournament was halted. Pant was initially a little nervous, but as the tournament progressed, his decisions showed improvement.
Like batting, same style of captaincy
Looking at Pant’s first experience in captaincy, many veterans have described him as a contender for the captaincy of the Indian team for the future. Former wicketkeeper and BCCI General Manager (Cricket Operations) Saba Karim has the same opinion. Speaking on the India TV program, Saba Karim said,
“It is too early to decide whether Pant will be the captain of India in the future or not.” It has potential. In the same way that he batting, he also captains. His style is completely different and it is a delight to see. “
Dhoni’s glimpse under Pant’s captaincy
Karim also said that under the captaincy of Pant, there was also a glimpse of Dhoni, who let the players enjoy the game. According to the former wicketkeeper, “His attitude towards the game is absolutely refreshing. He wants every player to play with him to enjoy it. I see signs like MS Dhoni in his captaincy, whether it is decision-making or attitude. “
However, the former wicketkeeper also suggested that to get close to the captaincy of the team, first Pant will have to make his place in all three formats fully. According to Saba Karim, Pant needs a little more work in T20. The Indian team already has candidates like Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya for the future.
