Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge has been given Z Plus security.
The Union Home Ministry has increased the security arrangements of Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge. Now he has been given Z Plus category security. Wherever he goes across the country, he will be surrounded by this category of security. This decision to increase the security of the Congress President before the Lok Sabha elections is being considered very important.
But do you know that the security system of important people in the country has been divided into different categories, where the security cover increases and decreases accordingly? Let us know how many types of security arrangements are there to provide important personalities in the country?
Z plus security system is most important
Z plus security system is considered the most important in India. Normally, 55 soldiers are deployed for the security of VIPs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. National Security Guards i.e. NSG commandos are included in this squad. All these are present around the protected person from his home to office and even during his travels. Equipped with state-of-the-art weapons, these soldiers are in a position to defeat the enemy in the blink of an eye. Their training is very strict.

Every member of the team is also an expert in martial arts and unarmed combat skills. There is a system of selecting NSG personnel from among the personnel of central paramilitary forces. About 40 VVIPs of our country have been given security arrangements of this category. This number keeps increasing and decreasing many times. Among the most important personalities with Z Plus category security cover are Home Minister Amit Shah, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.
There is security for VIPs in these categories also
After Z Plus category comes Z category security system. This includes six NSG personnel along with 22 personnel from different security forces. 11 soldiers are always deployed in the Y Plus category security circle. This arrangement includes one to two commandos and two PSOs. The next category is Y category security arrangements, in which a security cordon of eight soldiers is created along with one or two commandos and policemen. Two PSOs are also involved in this. This kind of security arrangement has been provided to many people in the country.
The decision on security rests with the central government
The decision regarding security arrangements for all these categories is taken by the Union Home Ministry. For this, there is an empowered committee, which takes decisions related to increasing or decreasing security arrangements etc. according to the inputs received from various sources. Many times people apply for security and the Home Ministry available in the state government considers it and sends its recommendation to the Centre, but generally the decision regarding security of very important personalities is taken by the Centre-State in mutual coordination. The security arrangements of the Prime Minister and the President in the country are different from these categories.
SPG protects the Prime Minister
The responsibility of security of the Prime Minister lies with the Special Security Group i.e. SPG. Its head is a DG rank officer of the Indian Police Service. The headquarters of SPG is in Delhi. In fact, only after the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1984, the officers had decided that the responsibility of the Prime Minister's security should be with a special agency. After this, SPG Act was introduced in the Parliament in the year 1988. After its passing, SGP was formed.
Earlier, all the former Prime Ministers and their family members were also covered under SPG security. It was amended during the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and now only the Prime Minister gets SPG protection. This group is alert everywhere. The security cover of PM is of many levels but in the inner circle there are only SPG personnel. Even during PM's visit to the country, rest of the security arrangements are decided only with the permission of SPG.
Neither SPG nor NSG has security for the President.
India's highest constitutional post, that is, the President, is not protected by either SPG personnel or any other category of personnel. Being the supreme commander of the three armies, a special regiment of the army, which is known as the President's Body Guards (PBG), provides security to the President.
This is the oldest and elite regiment of the army, which was started during the time of Governor General Warren Hastings during the British rule. At the time of its inception in the year 1773 AD, there were 48 guards, whose number was later increased to a hundred. They are given special kind of training. These are also selected very carefully.
Apart from all the above categories, the SP of the district also provides one or two or more jawans for security to the people when needed.
