Uttarakhand government will set up GI Board, an exercise to give global recognition to the state’s agriculture and other products

The GI Board constituted by the Government of Uttarakhand will help in providing GI to the special products of the state, as well as to protect and promote their GI. In fact, till now only Munsiyari Rajma has got the GI tag, while the exercise is going on to get GI tag for other special products. In such a situation, the work of the board will be important.

The Uttarakhand government has taken an important decision on Friday. Under which the Government of Uttarakhand (Uttarakhand Government) will constitute the Geographical Indicator (GI) Board. This board is for the farmers in the state (Farmer’s) will help in getting GI tag for the special products being produced by the company, will protect and promote their GI, which will enable them to be recognized at the global level. Regarding the formation of the board, on Friday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami (Pushkar Singh Dhami) has given directions for action. Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ganesh Joshi called on the Chief Minister Board sought to be constituted. On which the Chief Minister has taken a decision regarding the formation of GI Board.

Welcoming the instructions given by the Chief Minister in this regard, the Agriculture Minister said that the formation of GI Board will provide employment to the local growers on a large scale. At the same time, he will be encouraged to do better and the biggest thing will also stop migration from the state. In fact, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Agriculture Minister Ganesh Joshi on Friday unveiled the organic product kit manufactured by the Uttarakhand Organic Products Council. During this, the Chief Minister gave instructions to the officers to set up the GI Board.

The board will also study the demand in global markets.

Uttarakhand Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ganesh Joshi said that the GI Board to be constituted by the government will do GI registration of special products. Along with this, the board will also identify potential products by studying the demand and characteristics of the products in domestic and global markets. He said that this board will devise a mechanism to effectively grant the right to use the signal to any manufacturer and other concerned operator producing the product within the established limits and as per agreed standards.

Uttarakhand Agriculture Minister Ganesh Joshi had shared information regarding the GI tag of the state’s products in the ICAR Regional Committee meeting on Friday. He had said in the meeting that the local crops grown in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand have special importance, and according to the area specific characteristics are found in these crops. Giving an example, he said that the GI tag has been given to the rajma of Munsiyari by the Government of India. While the process of granting GI tag to Red Paddy, Berinag Tea, Gahat, Madua, Jhangora, Kala Bhatt, Buras, Sharbat, Chaulai/Ramdana, Almora Lakhodi Mirch, Pahari Toor Dal and Malta Fruit is in progress. During this, he had told the need for protection of the Rajma of Harshil, Chakrata and Munsiyari, red paddy of Uttarkashi, Chakrata and Maize grown in Nainital.
