Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, while returning from one of his tours, suddenly reached the fields to meet the farmers. While stopping his convoy in two villages and meeting the farmers, he said that you should leave paddy and cultivate other crops. Paddy cultivation in Rabi season remains a big issue in Telangana.

CM KCR suggested farmers not to sow paddy in Rabi season and opt for alternative crops like groundnut, cotton, black gram, moong dal, Bengal gram etc., which are in high demand in the market. The Chief Minister said that instead of only cultivating paddy in the state, there is a need to change the cropping pattern.

Market price of black gram is higher than MSP

He first stopped his convoy at Rangpur and went to the field where farmer Maheshwar Reddy had cultivated black gram. He also took stock of the groundnut crop grown by another farmer Ramulu. The Chief Minister inquired about the prices of these two crops in the markets, how much is the yield, how often the crops should be watered by both the farmers.

Farmers replied that the yield of black gram is around 8 to 12 quintals per acre and its MSP is Rs 6,300 per quintal while the market price is above Rs 8,000. He said that the yield of groundnut is about 10 to 15 quintals per acre. Its MSP is Rs 5,550 per quintal and the market price is above Rs 7,000 per quintal. He said that due to change in crops, the fertility of the land has increased and it has resulted in higher yield.

Telangana progresses rapidly in paddy production

There is resentment among farmers in Telangana over the ban on paddy cultivation during the Rabi season. Farmers say that the government has undeclaredly banned the cultivation of paddy during the Rabi season in the state. We were not even given time for this. The government should have given information about this earlier. At the same time, the reason behind this is being told by the state that the government procurement agency Food Corporation of India (FCI) has refused to purchase paddy produced in the Rabi season. Paddy cultivation has seen a lot in Telangana in the last few years, but now the situation is changing.
