The Congress is gearing up to contest all 40 seats in Goa in the assembly elections to be held in February next year. It has also been claimed that the political climate in the state is “very favorable” for the party.
Congress reshuffles Goa’s unit.
Former Goa Power Minister Aleixo Sequeira was on Monday appointed as the working president of the state unit of the Congress, while Girish Chodankar will continue to be the state president. In this regard, a statement issued by Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal (KC Venugopal) was issued on Monday. Chodkar had submitted his resignation after the defeat in the district panchayat elections last year.
According to the statement, it has been decided to retain former Chief Minister Digamber Kamat as the leader of the legislature party. Along with this, the party has also constituted five committees related to the elections. Party President Sonia Gandhi has approved the proposal to retain Chodankar as the President of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee and Kamat as the leader of the Legislature Party.
Election coordination committee headed by senior leader Luizinho Faleiro, election campaign committee led by Reginaldo Lurenco, finance committee led by Francisco Sardinha, manifesto committee headed by Ramakant Khalap and campaign committee led by Chandrakant Chodankar have been constituted. The new appointments come days after senior leader and AICC Goa desk election in-charge P Chidambaram visited the state, where assembly elections are due in early 2022.

Former Union Minister P Chidambaram visited Goa on 26 August. During this, he had said that the Congress is gearing up to contest all 40 seats in Goa in the assembly elections to be held in February next year. Along with this, he had claimed that the political climate in the state is “very favorable” for the party. He had exuded confidence that the Congress would form the next government in the state after the elections but any decision regarding alliance with like-minded parties would be taken at an appropriate time. He had said that the people of Goa are hopeful that there should be a change in the government and the Congress party will not let them down.
Congress will field loyal candidates in Goa: Chidambaram
Chidambaram had said that the party will field candidates who are loyal and loyal to the party’s ideology, hardworking and ready to serve the interests of the people of Goa. Congress will get many candidates in each constituency, but the ticket will be decided only after consultation with the active members of each block of the area who belong to Youth Congress, Mahila Congress, Seva Dal and other units.
