In Assam (Assam) the first phase of voting has ended, now the votes will be cast in the second phase. The second phase of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is focused on the Barak Valley of Assam, the stronghold of Bengali-speaking Hindus, this area has always been in favor of the BJP. In 1991, when the Bharatiya Janata Party won elections for 10 seats in Assam for the first time, even 9 of them used to come from this region. The Barak Valley is mainly composed of three regions, Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj. These three regions have 15 assembly seats, in the 2016 assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party was able to win 8 of these 15 assembly seats.
This time the BJP wants to do a clean sweep in this area with the help of CAA. Actually, there is a large population of Bengali-speaking Hindus in this area, due to this the Bharatiya Janata Party feels that it can clean up this time by making CAA an issue here. This is the reason that the BJP is raising the CAA issue in more vigorously in the second phase.
CAA created main issue in second phase
The Bharatiya Janata Party was taking a soft stand on the CAA during the first phase of voting, but as soon as the first phase was over, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s tone shifted to the CAA and it was aggressively implementing the CAA in Assam. Started talking about However, BJP has been insisting on implementing CAA in the country, especially in Assam since the beginning. Actually behind him are the 12 seats in Assam’s Barak Valley which have the growth of Hindu Bengali speaking population, when the war of independence was being fought in East Pakistan i.e. today’s Bangladesh, then a large number of Bengali speaking people in this part of Assam Took refuge as a refugee. Now the Bharatiya Janata Party is talking about giving them citizenship of India through CAA. There is a lot of enthusiasm among the people here. For this reason, the Bharatiya Janata Party feels that it will win at least 12 out of 15 seats in this area.
Congress will be harmed
This time the Congress party is contesting the assembly elections with eight parties in Assam, with which it has made the CAA protest in Assam its main issue. From its manifesto to the Congress party, it has been saying in every public meeting that if it comes to power in Assam, the CAA will not be allowed to apply in the state. It is obvious that the Congress Party is trying to help the original Assamese people and Muslims, but along with helping these communities, the Congress will also have to face the loss in the Barak Valley. There has always been a demand of Bengali Hindus of Barak Valley that CAA should be implemented in the state and they get citizenship. But the way the Congress is opposing this law, it is clear that the people here will not vote for the Congress or any party of its alliance at any cost.
BJP wants votes on the basis of its development
Voting will be held on April 1 in 7 Hailakandi seats of Cachar and 5 assembly seats in Karimganj in Assam’s Barak Valley. The BJP has managed to establish its footing in the region since the 1990s. The Bharatiya Janata Party claims that it has done good roads, electricity and many good works for the people in the region, due to which people are liking it here. Along with this, the number of Muslims in some part of Karimganj in this area is also very good, where AIUDF has always been dominated. Even with Maulana Badruddin Ajmal’s inflammatory statements against Hindus, Hindus have always polarized and voted for the Bharatiya Janata Party or the Congress Party. But now that the Congress party is contesting elections with AIUDF, the Hindus here have no option to go with any party other than the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has also put this matter somewhere in the minds of the Hindus here that Hindus are safe as long as they are in power in Assam. However, before this, the Congress government had been here for decades and even then both communities used to live together here. Well, the people of Barak Valley of Assam will vote and win this time, it will be known only on 2 May.
