Free travel in government buses for women from 1st April in Punjab
The Punjab Government is going to give a special gift for women from April 1 i.e. tomorrow. On Wednesday, the Cabinet has approved the approval for the Free Travel for Womens scheme for women. After which, from April 1, women will be able to travel free in government buses of Punjab. Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh announced this in the Legislative Assembly in the beginning of March.
This scheme has been approved under the government’s efforts to empower women and girls in the state. After this step, it is believed that more than 1.31 crore women and girls will be benefited across the state. According to the 2011 census, Punjab has a population of 2.77 crore (males 1,46,39,465 and females 1,31,03,873). After the approval of the scheme, now women will not have to pay any fare to go anywhere in the government buses of Punjab government. The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on Wednesday informed the Cabinet about the plan’s approval.

Announcement was made during the budget
Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal (Manpreet singh badal) presented the state’s budget of Rs 1,68,015 crore at the beginning of March for 2021-22 (budget 2021). In the budget, the Punjab government gave a big gift to women on International Women’s Day (8 March). The government had announced to make travel free for women in state government buses. Earlier, under the free ride scheme of Kejriwal government in Delhi, women are traveling free in DTC and cluster buses.
