EPFO Rules: According to the rules of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO), if the EPF subscriber files the nomination paper, then the families can get the benefit. One mistake can also result in loss of all EPFO benefits for the family.
Provident Fund is not only a financial support for EPFO subscribers, but also provides relief to their families in case the account holder dies during service. However, according to the rules of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO), families can get the benefit if the EPF subscriber files the nomination paper. One mistake can also result in loss of all EPFO benefits for the family. Here we explain one rule which is very important for everyone.
As per the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) Scheme 1952, the nomination of EPF and EPS account becomes invalid once the EPF-EPS account holder gets married. Hence, once the account holder gets married, he/she should re-nominate his/her nominee in the EPF-EPS account. In case of male, it is mandatory that the nominee shall be his wife while in case of female the husband shall be the nominee.
Nomination gets canceled after marriage
If the EPF-EPS account holder fails to nominate someone after marriage and the latter dies while in service, the wife or other rightful heirs will not automatically receive the EPF claim in the absence of the nominee.
According to the rules, if the EPF member does not have any family member, then he can nominate any person. But, the nomination will become invalid after marriage. If no nomination has been made under the EPF scheme, then the entire amount deposited in the fund will be divided equally among the family members. If the person is not married, the amount will be given to the dependent parents.
