As the awareness about solar panel systems continues to rise, people are realizing that going solar can translate into considerable savings. As a result, an increasing number of people are ditching their conventional local grid supplier and switching to solar panel systems as their primary source of energy supply. And while that’s a good sign, the issue is that many of them are unable to realize the full potential of their solar panel systems. That’s because they do not follow a proper solar panel installation process and end up making mistakes that result in a less efficient solar panel system.

To help our readers avoid making similar mistakes, in this post, we list some common solar panel installation mistakes you must avoid in order to get the best bang for your money.

1. Not paying attention to the roof.

Installing solar panels can add as much as 25 kgs of weight per square meter of any roof. It is, therefore, important to ensure thar the roof is structurally strong enough to bear that kind of weight. Many people tend to ignore the inspection step wherein solar panels come and check the roof to gauge it’s structural strength. Make sure you don’t make the same mistake and get a pre-inspection done.

2. Poor design and layout planning

Poor design and layout planning often leads to problems such as shading issues, low efficiency, and water drainage. Some of the common design and layout planning mistakes people make are – installing solar panels in partial shade and incorrect solar panel orientation. To avoid such issues, it is important to ensure that you hire the services of a reputable solar products company that has a team of experienced solar experts.

3. Lack of adequate number of solar panels

Another mistake that people make when going solar is opting for less than the required number of solar panels. Installing inadequate number of solar panels renders the whole purpose useless. Having an undersized solar panel system means you will have to rely on your local grid more often. That said, installing more than the required number of solar panels is also not advisable as it simply adds to the initial setup cost.

4. Not opting for Net-Metering System

Net metering allows property owners substantial savings on their monthly bills. That’s because it allows property owners to transfer the energy produced to the local grid, and have it offset against the units actually drawn from the local grid. Some people do not opt for net-metering system and that could probably be because they aren’t aware of the benefits it offers. Hope, you won’t make the same mistake.

5. Ignoring the subsidy and incentive benefits

As you would know the Indian central and state governments are offering handsome subsidies to encourage people to go solar. But you may be surprised to know that there are many who tend to ignore these benefits. One of the reasons is lack of awareness. But that’s also lack of proactiveness from the solar product’s company to inform buyers about these benefits. It is because of this reason we always stress on buying a home solar system through a reputable solar products company.

Last but not least

One of the biggest mistakes many people make when going solar is that they compromise quality over price. And while we understand that everyone has a limited budget, we also expect people to understand the difference between setting a budget and cutting corners. As a buyer it’s okay to fix a budget before you set out looking for a solar panel system. But once you have fixed your budget, make sure you don’t try to save more even if it meant that you need to compromise on quality. If you are sitting on a tight budget and still want to buy one of the best solar panel systems available on the market, then you must surely check out Luminous India’s wide range of solar products. The good thing about the brand is that it not just offers quality products, but they are reasonably priced to ensure that they don’t burn a hole in their customers’ pockets.
