The Michigan Supreme Court on Wednesday gave a big relief to former President Donald Trump. The court order said that Donald Trump can remain in the state’s primary voting. It is believed that this decision could be decisive regarding his candidature in the presidential elections. Donald Trump was accused of influencing the presidential elections in 2020. Trump’s critics argue that Section 3 of the 14th Amendment makes him ineligible to run for president, which was put into effect after the Civil War to bar former Confederate leaders from holding office.
The decision of the Michigan Supreme Court comes after the decision of the Colorado Supreme Court (like the High Court of India), in which Trump was proved ineligible for the presidential election. It is expected that Trump will appeal against that decision in the US Supreme Court.
Lawsuits going on in many states
Lawsuits are going on in many states regarding Donald Trump’s presidential candidacy. In this, he has been proved ineligible in a decision by the Colorado Supreme Court. The lawsuits filed by various plaintiffs and legal groups focus on a little-used section of the 14th Amendment. It dates back to the American Civil War, which disqualifies anyone involved in “rebellion or rebellion” against the United States from office. He is also facing trial over the attack on the US Capitol in which Trump’s supporters stormed the Capitol building in an attempt to prevent Biden from formalizing his presidential election victory.
Challenges being given in Michigan and Arizona
According to an organization that monitors the cases, currently cases are pending against Trump in 13 states, which also include Michigan and Arizona. Earlier, the courts had largely rejected challenges to Trump’s candidacy. Some of these cases were dismissed by the judges and some were dropped voluntarily by the litigants themselves.
