Mamta Banerjee and Election Commission.
Before the Bihar assembly elections, there has been a ruckus about the special intensive revision (SIR) of the voter list by the Election Commission. The opposition parties of Bihar are accusing the Election Commission of depriving the poor and disadvantaged voters of franchise. The opposition's altercation over the Election Commission and the BJP continues over the special revision of the voter list. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has already expressed apprehension about the intensive revision of the voter list and has accused it of implementing NRC from the back door.
Sources say that this time the apprehension of Mamta Banerjee is going to come true. After Bihar, the Election Commission is eyeing Bengal. In West Bengal, the list will be verified on 'Bihar model'.
Sources say that the Election Commission will probably start a special and intensive review of the voter list in Bengal from August from August. He last verified this list in Bengal in 2002. Many decades have passed since then, and the Commission is once again studying intense.
Why is EC doing intensive revision of voter list?
But why is the Election Commission suddenly reactivating the survey conducted a decade ago? After the recent elections in Maharashtra and Haryana, the country's opposition camp accused the voter lists of rigging. In Bengal too, the opposition has been accusing the fake voters in the voter list. The opposition alleges that Bangladeshi infiltrators are being given citizenship of Bengal. Their voter card and Aadhaar card are being made. The BJP has been constantly complaining about this.
Keeping all those complaints in mind, the Commission is emphasizing on studies to conduct transparent elections. In addition, under the powers of Article 21 of the Representation of the People Act in the Constitution, the Commission has the right to conduct special and intensive survey to verify which voters are in a country?
Trinamool objected to Election Commission
A delegation of the Trinamool Congress reached the Commission on Tuesday. During this discussion, the possibility of conducting intensive survey in Bengal was considered. Trinamool clarified that the Commission has conducted a thorough survey in Bihar for a month, which is not possible in this state.
TMC claims that the way the survey is being done in Bihar, 2 crore voters can be exempted due to irregularities in documents. It will not work in Bengal. We have to find time to conduct a survey here.
How can SIR be done?
According to commission sources, under the leadership of the Chief Electoral Officer of the state, the District Election Officer or District Magistrate, Additional District Magistrate, Electoral Registration Officer and Booth Level Officer will jointly survey all those houses whose names are in the voter list. Each voter will have to fill a form and submit them. Which will be verified by the Commission.
