Full prohibition law is applicable in Bihar since 2016. Most people are getting support. Along with the prohibition of alcohol, department and police administration, women of the state are also taking part in implementing this law effectively. The aim of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was to ensure the safety of women and reduce domestic violence.
The unique thing is that the women of Bihar are openly supporting this scheme of Nitish government. Women are coming out openly and are lodging a complaint against the smuggling and intake of illegal liquor on toll free number.
Toll-free number 15545 /18003456268 released
The toll-free number 15545 and 18003456268 of the Department of Alcohol Prohibition, Products and Registrations are getting an average of 200 to 300 calls daily, in which a large number of women are lodging a complaint against their husbands, father, son or relatives. According to the department, a total of 1211 women have lodged complaints related to liquor from January to June this year. It has received the highest number of 270 complaint calls in January. After this, 223 calls have been made by women in the months of February, 212 March, 167 April, 150 May and 189 calls.
At the same time, a total of three lakh 96 thousand 305 complaints have been filed through these toll free numbers from 2022 to May 2025. Complaint calls have been filed between 331 daily in 2022, 337 in 2023, 308 in 2024 and 200-300 complaints between January 2025 and May 2025. This year, 310 in January, 319 in February, 279 in March, 200 in April and an average 215 calls have come daily.
Vigilance increased due to raids
In order to successfully implement the prohibition law and ensure the participation of the common people in it, the department has issued two toll-free numbers. On this, any person can make secret complaints of manufacturing, storage, sale and use of alcohol. The government had written these numbers on electric poles to spread awareness. Successful raids are being conducted by police and top officials. More than 20 thousand raids have been conducted in the last three years, in which more than 14 thousand people have been arrested. In the year 2025, on an average, two arrests are taking place daily.
