Maulana Mahmood Madani, President of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind
Maulana Mahmood Madni, president of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind, has expressed great concern over the special revision process of the ongoing voter list in Bihar on July 3. He has demanded an immediate cancellation, calling it an attack on constitutional rights and democratic values. Madani said that this process has been started in a hurry, which can put the franchise of migrant laborers, minorities and disadvantaged sections.
Maulana Madani questioned how more than eight crore voters can be confirmed in just one month. He has also objected to the conditions imposed in this process. According to him, documents of both parents are being sought from a guardian from people born after 1987 and from people born after 2004. He asked, 'When it is not NRC, then why are the conditions like NRC being imposed?' He warned that thousands of women of Assam, who are deprived of education and documents, would be the most affected by this process as they do not have valid documents related to parents.
The right to vote is the fundamental right of every citizen: Madani
Madani insisted that every citizen has the fundamental right to vote under Article 326 of the Constitution of India. Any attempt to take away this right is against the spirit of the Constitution and democratic values. He said that this process is biased and discriminatory, due to which the democratic system of minorities, migrant laborers and poor sections can lose confidence. Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind has demanded from the Election Commission that this revision process should be canceled immediately. Instead, voter registration should be done in a normal and traditional way. He has insisted on protecting their franchise instead of removing migrant laborers from the voter list.
Jamiat will protect the franchise of the person standing on every marginalized: Maulana
Maulana Madani warned that if the franchise is taken away, it would not be just electoral injustice. Rather, the identity of citizens and their future will be attacked. He also said that Jamiat will fight on constitutional and legal levels to protect the franchise of every citizen, laborer, woman and minority. He strongly stated that if someone tries to snatch these rights, then Jamiat will compete at every level.
