Vikrant Massey isn’t afraid to speak his mind, even when it’s uncomfortable. In a chat with Rhea Chakraborty on her podcast, the 12th Fail actor got candid about how tough it can be to stay relevant in Bollywood without giving in to the PR game. He shared how trying to follow the typical fame playbook made him feel out of place and unsure of himself.
In today’s industry, where being seen often matters more than the work itself, Vikrant admitted that he once gave in to the pressure. But the fancy clothes, parties, and paps didn’t sit well with him, and he walked away from it.
Vikrant Massey On PR pressure
Vikrant shared how he tried fitting into the PR bubble but ended up hating it. He said, “I tried for 4-5 months, probably half a year. I started attending parties, I started renting out clothes, and they are so expensive. 50-60K a day, per event. My wife, who was my girlfriend then, said – Why? For 4-5 hours, you are wearing big designer clothes, woh pure mahine ka kharcha hai humara.”
He also recalled how uncomfortable it made him feel. “I tried and I failed and I realised how uncomfortable I was. I was not being myself. I was always conscious wearing those ultra expensive clothes ki kuch ganda naa hojaaye because I had to return them.”
On Forced Efforts Of Staying Relevant
Vikrant also spoke about the pressure to keep showing up and staying visible, even when it feels forced. He said, “There are days when I actually sit back and question my choices also. Am I doing the right thing? Should I go and position myself in a certain way? Should I actually go out there and get clicked by paps? To each their own, woh zaruri bhi hai kyunki uska ek traction hai.”
He’s not wrong. These days, stars are expected to always be “on” – from red carpet looks to daily airport outfits. For many, the fame game has turned into a never-ending loop of posing and posting.
