Guterres said that due to human activities, the temperature of the earth is going to a dangerous level. Glaciers are melting fast. He said that about 150 billion tonnes of Antarctic ice is melting every year.

The Greenland ice cap is also melting rapidly. Every year 270 billion tons of ice is melting from Greenland. There are a total of 10 major rivers in India that originate from the Himalayan region. Through these rivers, 1.3 billion people get drinking water.

Referring to last year’s floods in Pakistan, Guterres said that the world has already seen how the situation worsens after the Himalayan snow melts. In the last few decades, the ice sheets are ending. In such a situation, there may be a decrease in the flow of the rivers coming out of the Himalayas.
