Russia-Ukraine More than 8 months have passed since the ongoing war between. Meanwhile, new maps related to this war have come out in which Russia’s speed seems to be decreasing. This news has come to the fore at a time when Kherson was freed from Russian occupation only last week. After this, President Zelensky of Ukraine said that the retreat of the Russian army from Kherson is the beginning of the end of the war.
ABC News foreign correspondent James Longman shared two maps on Twitter comparing the situation in Ukraine in March and November. Maps show that Ukraine has regained 50 percent of its territory. James Longman tweeted the maps, saying, “This is why Ukraine thinks a military victory is possible. For him, talks mean giving territory to Putin. But Ukraine has already won back 50 percent of what Putin took at the start of the war.”
On the other hand, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has pledged to completely expel the Russian army from Kherson after its withdrawal. The strategically important city was occupied by Russian forces for nearly eight months. Russia left its strong hold in this big city. When Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, Kherson was one of the first places to be captured.

Big blow for Russia
The residents of Kherson expressed their happiness over the development and embraced the Ukrainian soldiers. President Zelensky said in his video address on Saturday night, we will see many more such honors of Ukrainian soldiers who liberated the Russian-occupied territory. He promised the people of many towns and villages in Ukraine now occupied by Russia, we don’t forget anyone; And we will liberate every region. The recapture of Kherson by Ukraine is a major blow for the Russian troops.
The Ukrainian army strengthened its hold on Kherson on Sunday. Authorities have begun consultations on removing the explosive devices and restoring basic public services in the city. A Ukrainian official described the situation in Kherson as a humanitarian disaster. It is being told that the remaining residents of the city are short of electricity, water, medicine and food.
Ukrainian police have called on residents to help identify collaborators of Russian forces during the eight-month occupation. Ukrainian police officers returned to the city on Saturday following the withdrawal of Russian troops. Ukraine’s national police chief, Ihor Klymenko, said on Facebook on Saturday that about 200 officers were working in the city and checkpoints were being set up.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dimitro Kuleba said in Cambodia, “We are winning the battle on the ground, but the war continues.” Kuleba is in Cambodia to attend a conference of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters on Sunday that a joint statement on the outcome of the summit was not accepted, as the US side and its allies insisted on an unacceptable assessment of the situation in and around Ukraine. The Kremlin is angered by the support Ukraine has received from its Western allies, including the US.
