Pakistan has banned Wikipedia for 48 hours. Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) gave this information on Wednesday. PTA said that Wikipedia service has been banned in the country for 48 hours. This has been done against him for not blocking and removing derogatory content.
The telecom regulator said that it had approached Wikipedia to block and remove the disputed content by issuing a notice under the applicable law in the country and court orders. PTA said that Wikipedia was asked to block/remove the derogatory content but it did not do so. After this such action has been taken.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority warned that Wikipedia would be blocked in the country if it did not comply with the law. Reinstatement will be reconsidered only after removal of illegal content. PTA is committed to ensuring a safe online experience for all Pakistani citizens in accordance with local laws.
This is not the first time that the authority has taken notice of objectionable content on the platform. Earlier in December 2020, PTA had given notice to Wikipedia and Google Inc to remove derogatory content.
