Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota criticised President Joe Biden’s upcoming journey to Saudi Arabia, saying it sends the mistaken message concerning the United States’s place on human rights.
The Minnesota Democrat and member of the Squad who’s a refugee from Somalia mentioned Mr Biden’s journey goes again on his phrase that he would make Saudi Arabia a “pariah nation” after the homicide of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
“We are going to make them pay the price, and make them in fact, the pariah that they are”, he mentioned when he was working for president.
But now, Mr Biden is ready to fulfill with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
The president’s journey to Saudi Arabia comes as a part of a multi-leg journey to the Middle East that included a visit to Israel. Mr Biden is ready to reach in Israel on Friday after Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud invited him to a summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council, which incorporates Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates alongside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
But Ms Omar mentioned the transfer will point out that the United States doesn’t care about girls or human rights.
“I think it sends the wrong message to everyone who cares about human rights and cares about the United States upholding the values of protecting human rights care, you know, advancing democracies, speaking up for women”, she mentioned. “Starting this trend of saying you’re going to do one thing on foreign policy, and not really is harmful to you that we have seen by the outside world.”
