Bulgarian the capital of Sophia Six people have been charged with human trafficking in the case of 18 people found dead in a truck. All the 18 people whose bodies have been recovered are said to be Afghan citizens. According to the information, 52 illegal migrants were present in the truck. At the same time, a child is also included in the 18 people found dead.
Prosecutors said the driver and his partner found that many of the 52 migrants in the truck were dizzy and some had already died, after which the truck was abandoned near the village of Lokorskoe. The migrants were in hidden compartments of the truck which were separated with foil.
Truck driver and his partner also accused of death
Prosecutors said the truck driver and his accomplice have also been charged with the death. The head of the National Investigation Service and Deputy Chief Prosecutor Borislav Sarafov said that the driver at first refused to stop the truck, despite loud and prolonged banging on the cabin.
Unclaimed truck was found from the village
Earlier in the report of Bulgarian newspaper Trud, it was told that an abandoned truck was found in the village of Sofia in Lokorsko, from which 18 bodies were recovered. At the same time, the Ministry of Home Affairs of Bulgaria told that for the treatment of the survivors, they have been admitted to Pirogov, St. Anna and VMA hospitals.
The deaths have shaken Bulgaria. Tens of thousands of people fleeing war and poverty in the Middle East, Africa and Asia make the journey, and Bulgaria has been trying to cope with a growing influx of migrants from neighboring Turkey over the past year.
