Holmes, 52, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, also revealed that she struggled with mental health as she had to hide her homosexuality while being part of the Women’s Royal Army Corps. Holmes said that he hid the fact that he was gay because of fear of court martial. Until the year 2000, it was illegal for homosexuals to be part of the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force, but now the law has changed. Holmes told the Sunday Mirror newspaper, I had to do it for myself now. This was my decision. I was nervous to talk about this. Now I feel that my excitement knows no bounds.
Anahata Singh wins Asian Junior Squash Championship
India’s budding player Anahata Singh won a gold medal in the girls’ under-15 category at the Asian Junior Squash Championships that concluded in Pattaya, Thailand on Sunday. Fourteen-year-old Anahata won the title by defeating Hong Kong’s Kwang Ana 3-0 in the final. She reached the final without losing a single game in the tournament. She defeated Malaysia’s top seed Whitney Isabel Wilson 3-0 in the semi-finals. Anahata has so far won 46 national circuit titles, two national championships and eight international titles. She is the only Indian girl to win the US Junior Open and British Junior Open in any category. Anahata will represent India at the World Junior Squash Championships in Nancy, France later this year.
Emami Group has not signed an agreement with East Bengal for the time being
Emami Group director Aditya Agarwal on Sunday said the company is yet to sign a contract to acquire the highest stake in century-old club East Bengal. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had announced the deal two weeks ago at her office in Nabana in the presence of senior East Bengal officials, Debabrata Sarkar and representatives of the Emami Group. The Chief Minister had said that both the sides have agreed and the problem of East Bengal playing in the Indian Super League will be resolved. But Agarwal, the top official of Emami Group, said that the talks are still going on. The agreement has not been signed yet, he told PTI. The conversation is still going on. Everything will become clear at the beginning of next week.
Naomi Osaka will not play Wimbledon
Four-time major champion Naomi Osaka pulled out of Wimbledon on Saturday due to a foot problem. She will thus not be able to play in the Grass Court Grand Slam tournament for the second year in a row. Posting a photo taken on the grasscourt, the former number one player wrote on Twitter, “My leg is still not good so I will see you here next year.”

Indian boxer NT Lalbiakkima lost to Jason Wayson of Philippines in the continental light flyweight title match of the WBC Asian Boxing Council (ABC). World ranked 47th Wayson won by a unanimous decision of the judges in a 10-round match at the Dubai World Trade Center on Saturday night. This is the first defeat of Lalbiakkima’s professional career. The three judges ruled in favor of Vyson with 97-94, 97-93 and 96-94. Lalbiakkima, a resident of Mizoram, suffered the loss of his short stature. He tried to make up for it with punches in his right hand but that could not stop Wayson from taking advantage of his tall stature.
