Indonesian Open: Lakshya Sen’s strong start, Saina Nehwal also reached the second round

India’s World Championship medalist B Sai Praneeth had to face defeat in the qualifying round of the Indonesia Masters Super 500 badminton tournament.
Indian shuttlers Lakshya Sen and Saina Nehwal notched up contrasting victories to enter the second round of the men’s and women’s singles events respectively at the Indonesia Masters Super 500 tournament on Wednesday. (PTI)
In his opening match of the tournament, Sen put up a fine performance by defeating Japan’s Kodai Naraoka 21-12 21-11. The new season, however, has not started well for Sen as he suffered early exits at the Malaysia and India Open in the last two weeks. (PTI)
Seventh seed Sen will now face Malaysia’s Nig Jae Yong while Saina will take on the winner of the match between two Chinese players Zhang Yiman and eighth seed Han Yue. (PTI)
Saina, who reached the second round of India Open, made it to the pre-quarterfinals with a 21-15 17-21 21-15 win over Chinese Taipei’s Pai Yu Po. Former world number one player Kidambi Srikanth again lost the match after losing the lead. He lost 10-21 22-24 in 39 minutes.(PTI)
Kiran George and Mithun Manjunath were also eliminated after losing in the first round of the qualifiers. Kartikeya Gulshan Kumar beat Yeo Seung Jo of Malaysia 21-8, 21-14 but lost to Lin Chun Yi 16-21, 17-21. (PTI)
