New Delhi: Who will be the new head of the selection committee of the Indian cricket team? This question is being asked for the last few days. Chetan Sharma, who became the chief selector last month, had to resign due to many controversial statements in an alleged sting operation. In such a situation, the senior selection committee with five members is currently running without a chief selector. Everyone is looking for the answer to whom the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will make the new chief selector. Could Harbhajan Singh be that name? When the former Indian spinner was asked this, he openly put forward a condition, only after which he can consider it.
Until a few years ago, the selection committee in which experienced and veteran former players like Dilip Vengsarkar, Sandeep Patil, Mohinder Amarnath, Kiran More used to select for Team India, in the last few years very few experienced or hardly played 2-3 test matches Former players are being given a chance. The legendary names of Indian cricket have started turning away from this work and the biggest reason for this is considered to be the salary received by the selectors and Harbhajan Singh keeps this as his condition.
‘Salary equal to the coach’
The veteran off-spinner, who participated in a program of the English newspaper Indian Express, was asked a question about becoming the chief selector, then Harbhajan made it clear that this could happen in the future, but for this the salary would have to be improved. Harbhajan said, let’s see, if in future the coach and the selector get equal pay, then why not? The coach has to be with the team all the time and make plans but team selection is equally important.
According to the information, there is a huge difference in the salary received by the BCCI to the selectors and the head coach. According to the reports, the current head coach of Team India, Rahul Dravid is getting an annual salary of Rs 7 crore. While the head of the selection committee gets Rs 1 crore annually, the other four members of the committee get Rs 90 lakh each.
If you want a veteran, then you have to pay a big salary.
Apparently, this much difference in salary is also a reason for former veterans not to choose this job. Especially in such a situation, in the last few years, as commentators and experts in different sports channels, former players get huge amount for some time’s work. Harbhajan cited this to his former teammate Virender Sehwag. mentioned.
Bhajji said that if a veteran like Virender Sehwag has to be made the chief selector, then the board will also have to look at the salary because a player with a big status will also have to be paid well. Harbhajan said that even through other works related to cricket, a veteran like Sehwag can earn more than the selector and hence big names avoid coming.
