The Indian team has to play a three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka from Tuesday. The first match will be played in Guwahati and before this match, India’s ODI team captain Rohit Sharma shared some important information in a press conference on Monday. Regarding the opening pair, he told that Ishan Kishan, who scored a double century against Bangladesh, would have to sit out and Shubman Gill would open with him. After this statement of Rohit, former Indian fast bowler Venkatesh Prasad has expressed his anger on Twitter.
Ishan scored a stormy double century in the third ODI played in the Bangladesh series. When asked about his opening partner on Monday, Rohit said, “It is unfortunate that we will not be able to play Ishan. Given the way things have been for us in the last eight-nine months and the way things have been for us in ODIs, it would be fair to give Gill a chance and he has done exceptionally well at that level.
Prasad criticized
After Rohit’s press conference, Prasad strongly criticized Rohit’s decision and made several tweets. He wrote, I think it would have been right that the batsman who scored a double century in the last ODI for India and in that series where India lost two matches, should be given a chance. There is plenty of time for Gill. But there is no point in dropping a double century scorer and if you have to feed Gill, then feed him at number-3 and let Ishan do wicketkeeping in place of KL Rahul.
that’s why can’t do well
Prasad has also given the reason for the poor performance of Team India in limited overs and said that this happens due to the continuous removal of players. He said, the reason for this is that we could not show the game as expected in limited overs. Players are constantly being removed from the team. The player who does well and has the X factor is dropped in the next match and the ordinary player gets a chance.
Citing the example of Pant, he wrote, Pant scored a century in the last ODI in England and helped India win the series. He was dropped from the ODI team on the basis of T20 form. KL Rahul is failing continuously except for a few innings but his place is confirmed in the team. Performance is not the first parameter of selection. Sad
