Preparations for the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) are in full swing. All eyes are on the IPL auction to be held next month. Many players have registered for this auction, in which apart from India, foreign players are also included. One of them is Australia’s all-rounder Cameron Green. All the franchises will be eyeing Green, but Australian team head coach Andrew McDonald has given such a statement that the problems of the franchisees may increase.
Australia head coach Andrew McDonald is worried about Green’s workload ahead of the next IPL and said a decision on the all-rounder’s participation in the lucrative T20 league will be taken closer to the tournament. Green represented the Australian team that toured India before the ICC T20 World Cup. Australia played a three-match T20 series on this tour, in which Green scored half-centuries in two. In such a situation, if Green plays IPL, then the franchises can spend a lot of money on him.
‘It’s a matter of concern’
The 23-year-old Green, who has played all formats for Australia, is expected to be in high demand among IPL franchises in this month’s auction. The Australian Associated Press (AAP) quoted McDonald as saying, his (Green) total workload in the next 12 months of cricket, is it a concern? Yes, I think it is a matter of concern for every player. We have talked about it many times. It is imaginary to see how he must be feeling at the end of March. He has to play a lot of cricket before IPL and I am sure he will not take a decision now. A decision on this will be taken before the IPL.
The Australian coach said, you don’t know how your body is going to feel after three months of playing nine Test matches and then a few limited overs matches at the end of the Indian series.
Suffering from back injury
IPL 2023 will be held between the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India (February-March) and The Ashes in England (June-July). Australia opener David Warner has already warned Green about the challenge of managing his workload. Australia’s Test captain Pat Cummins has already been ruled out of next year’s IPL due to a busy international schedule. Green has been troubled by a back injury which has limited his bowling.
