A purported video of Uttarakhand cabinet minister Premchand Aggarwal, his security personnel and some others beating up a man after an argument in Rishikesh went viral on Tuesday. After the video came, the local people protested in Rishikesh Kotwali demanding action against the minister.
Agarwal, who holds the portfolio of Finance and Parliamentary Affairs in the state, however, defended his act saying that the man, Surendra Singh Negi, besides abusing him, attacked him and stripped off his kurta and his security personnel. Torn the uniform, due to which he was beaten up. He said, “An FIR will also be lodged in the matter as it is an attack on the government machinery.”
The victim accused by releasing the video
On the other hand, the victim Surendra Negi in a video posted on Facebook accused the minister and his staff of attacking him without any provocation. In one of the clips, Negi alleged that he could not understand why he was abused and attacked by the minister and his men. He said, “We were stuck in a traffic jam and I passed by his car without knowing who was sitting in it. He abused me and when I protested, he and his men got down from their car and started thrashing me.”
Congress demanded the dismissal
In the video, Negi also showed a pen and said that it was the minister’s pen and that was enough to prove that he was beaten up by him. Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Suryakant Dhasmana has demanded immediate sacking of Agarwal from the state cabinet. He said, “If those who are responsible for the law and order of the state are fighting with the general public, then where will the rule of law remain in the state. Dhasmana said that if the Chief Minister does not sack Agarwal from the cabinet, the Congress will hit the streets.’
The minister gave clarification on the whole controversy
However, giving a different information in this regard, Aggarwal said that Negi was walking along with his car. He told that the glasses of his car were down and Negi started abusing him. The minister told that when he protested, Negi started arguing with him and tore his shirt while attacking him. He told that when his security personnel tried to save him, Negi tore his uniform as well.
