Senior BJP leader Uma Bharti cited alcohol as one of the reasons behind increasing crimes against women in Madhya Pradesh. Just before ending her four-day stay at a temple in Bhopal on Tuesday, Uma Bharti announced that she would launch a ‘Madhushala me Gaushala’ campaign in support of her demand for a regulated liquor distribution system in the state.
Bharti reached a temple located at Ayodhya Nagar Square in Bhopal on Saturday afternoon and announced that she would stay in this temple for the next three days waiting for the announcement of the state government’s new liquor policy on January 31 and would sit there and listen to the announcement.
She ended her four-day stay at the temple on Tuesday, but the state government did not announce its liquor policy today. Addressing the media in the temple on Tuesday, Bharti said that the liquor shop just before the entrance of Ram Raja Sarkar at the mouth of Orchha in Niwari district of the state is illegal and due to the mistake of the law department, it has been taken from the court. Adjournment has been granted.
She said, “I will reach Orchha on Wednesday evening and hence I want to convert the Madhushala into Gaushala the day after tomorrow (Thursday). This would be an example. Rest I will wait for the new liquor policy. She said that without waiting for the liquor policy, she will start converting the liquor shops running in violation of the rules into gaushalas. Bharti said that she has asked people to arrange for 11 cows, which will be tied at the liquor shop in Orchha.
She said, “Let us see, who dares to stop me? Will feed these cows and also arrange water for them at the liquor shop. Bharti said that liquor cannot flow in Madhya Pradesh, milk will flow here and this incident in Orchha will be an indicator of this. She said that alcohol is one of the reasons behind the increasing crime against women in Madhya Pradesh. She said that apart from this, liquor is mainly becoming the cause of fear, insecurity and diseases in the state.
