Tomato Price: Tomato cultivation has been affected for the last 4 years due to an insect attack. Due to its outbreak, the production is greatly reduced and no solution has been found so far. This is the reason why farmers have left tomato cultivation, which has affected the production and now the prices have reached the sky.

This year also the tomato crop is in its grip, so the production has come down. Now the prices of tomatoes have increased in the market. The price of tomato has gone up to Rs 70-100 per kg in the vegetable markets of Mumbai. In this season, the price of tomato is generally Rs 20 to 30 per kg, but due to less arrival, the price may increase further. On one hand, while the prices of onions are showing a decline, on the other hand the prices of tomatoes are increasing.
Tomato cultivation is highest in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Bharat More, a trader of Vashi Mandi in Navi Mumbai, says that at present the arrival of tomatoes in the market is very less. Only 20 to 25 tomato carts are reaching this market. This is the reason that the tomato which was earlier being sold at Rs 20 per kg, has now reached Rs 60 to 70 per kg. In the coming time, consumers may have to spend even more money for tomatoes.
Not getting help from agriculture department
Ram Gadve, president of All India Vegetable Association, told NewsNCR Digital that the fruits are getting spoiled due to the pest and till now the solution has not been found. Gadwe says that the farmers had given to the Agriculture Department in writing about the damage caused by this insect, but till now no help has been received. For the last 4 years, farmers are troubled by this pest and now the situation has become such that farmers have stopped cultivating tomatoes. If the Agriculture Department does not take any action in the coming days, then the situation regarding tomato cultivation and its prices may worsen.
Farmers have stopped tomato cultivation
Ram Gadve said that due to this pest, production decreases from 70 to 80 percent. Because of this, a large number of farmers have now stopped farming, because every year the farmers were incurring losses. Yields have fallen due to insect attack, reducing production and farmers abandoning tomato cultivation. In almost all the mandis the arrival is very less. Gadve says that the Agriculture Department will have to take some quick steps. We told him about this problem in writing many times but there was no help from his side. As a result, farmers have stopped cultivating tomatoes.
