Banana orchards have also suffered massive damage due to the first monsoon rains. Apart from this, a farmer has also died due to lightning in the district. Many types of problems have been seen in the first rain, but overall this rain is considered best for the Kharif season. Moderate rains will speed up the agricultural works in Kharif season. Farmers believe that if sufficient rains continue in time, then sowing of Kharif crops will be done on time.
Farmer narrated his ordeal
Bhim Patil, a farmer living in Malegaon in Nashik district, says that this year due to the falling price of onions, we had stored the produce. We were waiting that we would sell when the prices increased, but in the first rain of the monsoon that came with the storm, 700 quintals of onion got wet and there was a loss of lakhs. Patil is now demanding compensation from the administration. Farmers say that those who do not have storage facilities, they have to suffer similar losses in the rains. This is the reason why farmers are forced to sell onions at low rates. Overall, farmers suffer losses from all sides.
Banana orchards were also destroyed
Due to heavy rains in Hingoli district, fully prepared banana orchards have also been destroyed. Now the farmers of the district are demanding compensation from the government at the rate of two lakh rupees per acre. On the other hand, farmers engaged in preparing for the cultivation of Kharif crops say that if the rains continue at the same time, then the tillage work will be accelerated and regular sowing will be done. Farmers say that this time amidst the forecast of good rains, we are expecting to get more production from Kharif crops.
