Ever wondered what is the most special thing to eat in your city? Just like Agra’s ‘Petha’, Mathura’s ‘Peda’ and Bikaner’s ‘Bikaneri Bhujia’ have their own special identity, similarly now 713 districts of the country will have their own identity. Modi government’s ‘one district – one product’ (O.D.O.P.) Earlier, a big state like West Bengal was not included in the scheme, but now it has also been included in it, without doing anything.
Ministry of Food Processing has launched ‘Prime Minister Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises’ for 713 districts out of 766 districts of the country. (PMFME) Under the scheme, ‘One District-One Product’ program has been approved.
Bengal also joined from January
Due to the political rivalry between West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, earlier this scheme was not applicable in the state of Bengal. Now from January 2023, 23 districts of West Bengal have also been included in it.
On the recommendation of 36 states and union territories of the country, the Ministry of Food Processing itself elects ODOP. This scheme of the government will also benefit 112 aspirational districts, 35 districts with 40 percent scheduled caste population.
How will the PMFME scheme benefit?
Under the Pradhan Mantri Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme, the government will set up 76 incubation centers across the country. A provision of Rs 205.95 crore has also been made for this. Through this, the government will help the already existing entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs in all these districts in capacity building, developing new and innovative products. Not only this, the value chain will also give them support.
Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Prahlad Singh Patel said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha that the PMFME scheme will provide financial, technical and business support to the businessmen of this sector. At the same time, it will also help in upgrading them.
