Haryana Government has announced a cash incentive of Rs.4000 for direct seeding of paddy. However, most of the farmers are not in favor of it and they are waiting for the rains for transplanting.
Kharif season in Haryana from WednesdayKharif SeasonThe transplanting of paddy, the main crop of the state, has started. Incessant heat and monsoon (MonsoonThe problems of the farmers have increased due to the delay. On the other hand, due to insufficient power supply to agricultural feeders, paddy cultivation (Paddy Farming) the cost of farmers is increasing. Due to lack of power supply, heat and delay in rains, farmers are using diesel to water their fields and this has increased their cost significantly. The state government has announced a cash incentive of Rs.4000 for direct seeding of paddy. The government says that it requires 70 percent less water and 30 percent less cost than the traditional method. However, most of the farmers are not in favor of it and they are waiting for the rains to prepare their fields for transplanting.
Farmers say that we could not even think of transplanting paddy without rain. Water is not enough to protect other crops from the heat. If we use water for planting paddy, then the crops of maize and sugarcane will be affected. The government says that we have increased the power supply in agricultural feeders for paddy transplantation to 7 hours a day. However, farmers say that this is not enough to fill the fields for paddy transplantation.
Agriculture department is appealing to adopt DSR method
Ajay Kumar, a farmer from Indri in Karnal district said that my nursery is ready, but I cannot start transplanting from June 15. He said that there is not enough water to save paddy transplantation and sugarcane crop. The water from the tube well is not enough even to fill an acre in a day. Sandeep Kumar, a farmer from Gharaunda, Karnal, said that we have two tube wells, but we cannot transplant paddy in our 15-acre field without rain. The Agriculture Meteorological Department of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University says that the weather will remain dry for the next few days and some parts of the state may receive pre-monsoon rains from June 16 to June 20.
Meanwhile, the officials of the state agriculture department have advised farmers to adopt DSR techniques. Sumita Mishra, Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, said in a conversation with Hindustan Times that our initiative has received a good response from the farmers. Paddy has been cultivated under DSR technology on about 50,000 acres. We have approved 450 new machines at 50 percent subsidy to help the farmers. Mishra has appealed to the farmers to adopt DSR and take advantage of cash incentive of Rs.4000 per acre. Karnal deputy director of agriculture Aditya Dabas stressed that there is a possibility that the monsoon may be delayed by 10 to 15 days. Farmers should adopt DSR method without any further delay. This will help in reducing the cost and save ground water.
