Making several changes in the decades-old defense recruitment process, the Central Government on Tuesday announced a scheme called ‘Agneepath’ for the recruitment of soldiers in the Army, Navy and Air Force. Under this, the recruitment of soldiers will be done on contract basis for a short period of four years. The youth who will be selected in this will be called ‘Agniveer’. A quarter of the people will also be brought into regular service.
The recruitment process for personnel below officer rank will start in the next three months. In which youth from 17.5 years to 21 years can apply. After the meeting of the Union Cabinet, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said in a press conference, ‘This scheme will increase employment opportunities. Agniveers will be given good salary and a retirement package will be given after four years of service. Let us know big things about this scheme related to short-term recruitment of soldiers.
Recruitment: Candidate age should be 17.5 years to 21 years. They will be selected for four years’ service, which includes training period. They will be given rigorous training in various training centres. This year more than 45,000 soldiers will be recruited in the three services.
Financial package: The annual package will be Rs 4.76 lakh for the first year. Which will increase to 6.92 lakh in the fourth year. The allowances received by the soldier will include risk and hard work, ration, uniform and travel. It is being said that the army is in favor of recruiting maximum soldiers. Whose service will not be cut immediately, but it can be reduced gradually.
Service Fund: The scheme also includes a service fund, under which every month the soldier will have to contribute 30 percent of his salary and the government will also contribute the same amount. During retirement after four years, the soldiers will get Rs 11.71 lakh, which will be tax free.
The soldiers will be given two options to claim the service fund. The first option would be to deposit one lakh rupees in the soldier’s account on his retirement after four years and convert the remaining amount into a bank guarantee to raise the loan. Another option would be to deposit the entire amount in the soldier’s account.
Compensation on death: The financial package for soldiers in case of unfortunate event like death will include non-contributory life insurance cover of Rs 48 lakh, additional ex-gratia of Rs 44 lakh and payment received during full four years of service. is included.
Compensation on Disability: Compensation will be given to soldiers on the basis of percentage of disability in case of disability. Which will be decided by the medical officer. The soldiers will be given ex-gratia of Rs 44 lakh/ Rs 25 lakh/ Rs 15 lakh in case of 100%/ 75%/ 50% disability respectively.
After four years of service: After serving for the full four years, the soldiers will get the benefits of the service fund and will be given certificates and credits for higher education. Agniveer can apply for regular service on a voluntary basis.
It is also being considered that Agniveers can be absorbed in the paramilitary forces after the completion of service. Due to which the cost of training of personnel can be reduced.
