Music is an important part of our life. Not everyone knows how to dance, but sometimes when that kind of music is played, our feet definitely start moving. Or else the whole body starts shaking. But why does this happen? A study has been done about this at an electronic music concert in Canada, which has been published in ‘Current Biology’. A few years ago a similar study was done in Australia as well.
According to Australian researchers, the reason for swaying on music is the bass of the music. In the study, he analyzed changes in the brain on low and high frequency sound. These voices create the rhythm of the music. To understand this, the researchers used electroencephalography, which reads the movements of the brain.
The researchers observed that every movement of the brain depends on the frequency of the music tune. In a song in which the bass is high, then the feet will move more to dance. In such a situation, people will dance more. According to the researchers, such research can be used to understand many types of medical conditions and treat diseases.
Now let’s talk about the latest research study. According to neuroscientist David Cameron of McMaster University, people danced 12 percent longer even when playing low-frequency bass, while the dancers could not even hear this bass. According to Cameron, people were not even aware when the music was changing. But due to this the speed of his dance was changing.
Dr Cameron is a trained drummer. He says that there is a special relationship between bass and dance. He says that when the bass is more in electronic music concerts, then people enjoy it more. People also demand to increase it further. According to Cameron, he did not know that bass could make people dance more.
According to research, even when the bass is not heard, the bass creates sensations in the body. These sensations arising in the inner part of the ear (the balancing part of the skin or brain) affect the movement. These sensations automatically go to the next part of the brain i.e. the frontal cortex. According to Cameron, this all happens subconsciously. With these sensations energy is given to the movement system of the body and the person starts dancing.
Cameron does not claim to have solved the mystery of why humans dance. But in the future, he wants to confirm his theory through more experiments. He says that he has always been interested in rhythm, especially the rhythm that makes people dance.
