Let us inform that the quota of English liquor and beer has been abolished in the Punjab cabinet meeting. This means that brewing companies can make as many English wine and beer as they want. English Liquor means Indian Made Foreign Liquor, on which the quota has been abolished. It is believed that competition will increase and the rate of liquor will come down even further.
How much was earlier and quota? According to the Tribune report, the Pahal government had fixed a quota on Countrymade, IMFL, Beer and Imported and companies could make liquor only in a certain quantity. However, now the quota has been removed from IMFL and beer. Let us tell you that the same quota is retained on countrymade and imported, in which 8 crore proof liters on countrymade and 2.50 crore PL on imported. At the same time, there was a quota of 3.37 crore PL on IMFL and 3.28 crore PL on beer, which has now been abolished.
Change in excise duty? According to reports, the Punjab government has reduced the excise duty on English liquor from 350 per cent to 150 per cent. At the same time, it has been reduced from 250 to one percent on country liquor. This will make liquor much cheaper in Punjab and will be priced at par with neighboring states, which was much higher earlier.
How much will the rate change? After reducing the quota and excise duty of beer and IMFL, the rate of liquor in Punjab will also be reduced by 10 to 15 percent from Haryana. The aim of the change in the liquor policy is to reduce the smuggling of liquor in Haryana and Chandigarh. The rate of liquor in Punjab is up to Rs 200 a bottle, while it will start getting up to 120. Apart from this, the cost of liquor which is Rs 700, now it is going to be up to Rs 400. It is being told that there can be a reduction of up to 35-60 percent.
