Highlights of Vikalp Scheme
- Vikalp scheme is applicable for all trains and class passengers.
- Under the Vikalp scheme, passengers can opt for a maximum of seven trains. Trains running within a time period of 12 hours from the departure time of the originally booked train are included in the scheme.
- This scheme is applicable to all waitlisted passengers irrespective of booking quota and concession.
- When a confirmed reservation is given in another train, no additional fee is charged from the passengers.
- If there is a difference in the fare of both the trains, no refund is given to the passenger.
- Passengers who have opted for this scheme and are given a seat in an alternate train will not be included in the waiting list of the original train. A separate list will be prepared for the passengers shifted in the alternate train, in which the details of the confirmed and waiting list will be made.
- Once a passenger is given a confirmed seat in another train, that passenger cannot board the original train.
- Once the Vikalp scheme is exercised, one can upgrade to a higher class in the new train by paying the difference in fare. For example, originally you had booked 3 AC, but you got a berth in sleeper class under Vikalp scheme. In such a situation, you can upgrade to 3 AC in the new train. You will have to pay extra fare only when you upgrade your berth.
- If a passenger with Vikalp scheme gets a reservation in a new train, but chooses to cancel the ticket for the new train, then the passenger will have to pay the cancellation charge as per the rules for cancellation of confirmed ticket.
- The option scheme once selected successfully cannot be changed.
- Vikalp Scheme is applicable only for those tickets booked through IRCTC website. You will get an SMS of activation of Vikalp scheme as soon as the chart is prepared and if your ticket is still in the waiting list. After this your new train, coach and berth number will be shared.
