If you travel by flight, then this news is for you. So the thing is that the airline companies are not going to run arbitrarily anymore. In view of the increasing incidents of denial of boarding of passengers, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has hardened. Even after reaching the airport on time with a valid ticket, the airline company does not allow you to board, then in such a situation the airline company will have to pay a compensation of up to Rs 20,000. DGCA air travelers (Air PassengerNew rules have been announced regarding the rights of According to the DGCA, if an airline can provide alternate arrangements within an hour, then no compensation is required to be paid to the passenger. DGCA has taken this strict step after continuous complaints from passengers.
At the same time, if the airline gives alternate arrangements within the next 24 hours, then the passengers will be entitled to damages up to Rs 10,000. Apart from this, if the airline company takes more than 24 hours, then in such a situation, passengers will have to pay a compensation of up to Rs 20,000. The DGCA said that the terms in this case are in line with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). Similar rules are followed globally to respect passenger rights. Actually, recently DGCA had issued strict instructions to all domestic airlines to follow these rules.
There will be so much fine for mistake
The Directorate General had said last month that airlines indulge in the malpractice of denying boarding to passengers even after reporting for their flights at the airport on time. The aviation regulator, in an e-mail on May 2, had asked all Indian airlines to provide compensation and facilities to passengers affected by such denial of boarding and warned that they would be fined for failing to do so. The DGCA said, the airline has been asked to immediately put in place a system to address this issue. If the airline fails to do so, further steps can be taken against the airline.
Why did DGCA take strict steps?
Now let us know why DGCA had to do this strictly. Indian airline companies have been found to be overbooking the seats of the planes. In such a situation, when the passengers who have booked the seat reach for boarding, they are refused to board the flight. DGCA during surveillance in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Delhi found that Air India is not following these rules. On this, the DGCA had issued a ‘show cause’ notice to Air India. In this case it was found that the airline does not have any policy in this regard and is not paying any compensation to the helpless passengers. Taking action on this matter, a fine of Rs 10 lakh was imposed on Air India.
