The special thing is that earlier in four and a half years, the total purchase from this portal was seen to be more than one lakh crore rupees. Whereas in the current financial year, purchases worth Rs 1.07 trillion have been made through GeM.

The special thing is that people from Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh were among those who made maximum purchases from the GeM portal. Officials believe that there is a continuous increase in the popularity of the portal. We are seeing more of this figure in the coming years.
GEM was launched about 6 years ago
The GeM portal was launched in August 2016. The main objective of launching this portal was to improve transparency in the procurement of various goods and services by all Ministries, Departments and Public Sector Firms of the Central Government and State Governments, besides providing a new age platform to officially .
While the buyers from this portal are official organizations and sellers – ranging from small businesses to large companies – from both public and private sectors. Let us tell you that in July, the government had asked all its ministries and departments and Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) to make all purchases through GeM by the end of this financial year. This instruction has also contributed to the increase in purchases.
