Last year, Switzerland’s parliament approved the approval of new solar projects to help ensure a steady supply of electricity during the winter.
There is a dam in Switzerland at a very high altitude – Lake Mutze Dam (Mutze Lake Dam). This is not an ordinary dam. This is a solar dam. This dam, built at the height of the clouds, generates electricity in that season, especially in winter, when the production of electricity in other places becomes cold. It is built at an altitude of 8000 feet above sea level. The name of this project is AlpineSolar, which is being run by the energy company Expo.
Electricity equivalent to 700 homes: Swiss energy firm Expo has installed around 5,000 solar panels on the country’s longest dam. These panels will generate clean electricity even during the winter season, when hydropower production is reduced due to rain and water scarcity. This dam can generate 33 lakh kilowatts of electricity every hour. This much electricity is enough for 700 houses.
How about triple the benefits?… This wall of solar panels is above the clouds so it receives good sunlight even in winters and generates a lot of electricity. The frozen snow on the mountains also reflects sunlight and sends it to these solar panels. In such a situation, the effect of sunlight increases and electricity is generated three times more.
What does the company say?… One of the advantages of the Alpine solar plants is that the project produces three times more electricity than the Midlands, especially in winter,” says Expo spokeswoman Jeanette Schranz.
Future Plan: Last year, Switzerland’s parliament approved the approval of new solar projects to help ensure a stable supply of electricity during the winter. The construction of this dam was completed only last year. By 2030, there is a target of installing 4,200 more panels, so that about 1.2 GW of solar power will be generated every year. The company wants to provide electricity prepared in this way to more than 30 thousand houses. (Photos – from Reuters, Yale and Twitter)
