After the controversy, the film had to face ban in West Bengal as well. The ban on The Kerala Story in West Bengal was lifted by the Supreme Court a week ago. However, the film is yet to release in the state with the makers and distributors still in agreement. The distributors claimed that they were being threatened for not releasing the controversial film.
