Actor Amjad Khan, who plays Gabbar's strong, dreaded and memorable character in Sholay, is no longer among us. In his career, he worked in more than one film. Amjad Khan was born on 12 November 1940 in Mumbai. His father Jayant (real name Zakariya Khan) was a famous actor of Hindi cinema. While walking on the path of father, Amjad also worked in Bollywood and he appeared in many films. However, after completing the 5 decades of age, Amjad passed away from the world. He died of a heart attack in Mumbai on 27 July 1992.

At the age of just 9, Amjad Khan worked in a film called 'Nazneen' as a child artist. After this, he appeared in the lead role in the 1973 film 'Hindustan Ki Kasam'. Then at the beginning of his career, he got a historical film like 'Sholay'. He became famous from house to house by playing the role of Gabbar. With his strong acting, he also gave a tough fight to veterans like Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Sanjeev Kumar.
Amjad acted in more than 130 films. His spectacular films also worked in films like 'Chess Ke Khiladi', 'Hum Kisi Se Sahgandh', 'Des Pardes', 'Dada', 'Dada', 'Chambal Ki Kasam', 'Naseeb', 'Satte Pe Paut', 'Nasti', 'Yarana', 'Lavaris', 'Rocky'. However, he did not reinforce the popularity like Sholay.
