IIT Kanpur: In the IIT Kanpur Dalit professor harassment case, the Supreme Court, while giving its verdict, said that the institute itself should solve the matter. This matter is of 2018.

IIT Kanpur: Kanpur IIT (IIT Kanpur) The decision of the Supreme Court has come on the Scheduled Caste professor harassment case. The Supreme Court has asked the chairman of the board of governors of the institute to resolve the matter internally. On Thursday, the Supreme Court has ordered to solve the matter under mutual agreement. This matter is of 2018.
The court has called the complainant and the four professors and asked them to clear the misunderstandings. The court said in its order that such allegations and counter-allegations cause huge damage to the reputation of the institute. It is better that this matter should be resolved within the institution itself. Justice Suryakant and Justice Maheshwari’s bench has issued a 13-point order and has ended the matter for the time being.
In 2018, Chandrashekhar Upadhyay, senior professor scientist of the institute, Prof. Ishant Sharma and Prof. Subrahmanyam had complained against Professor Raju Shekhar and Sanjay Mittal about the atrocities being committed on Dalits in IIT Kanpur, alleging harassment. After which the dignity of the institute was greatly tarnished. The Supreme Court, while giving its decision in the matter, has clearly said that the chairman of the board of governors of the institute should get the matter resolved. In the same case, the institute had ordered an inquiry by forming a 3-member committee.
what was the whole matter
Let me tell you that in 2018, Professor Subrahmanyam Sarela of Aerospace Engineering Department of IIT Kanpur had filed a case of Dalit harassment against 4 professors of the institute. Professor Subrahmanyam Cinderella joined IIT Kanpur in 2018 as Assistant Professor after the institute’s investigation in the matter. He joined in the aerospace engineering department. A few days later, Professor Subrahmanyam lodged a complaint against his senior professors accusing them of having an anti-Dalit mindset.
The IIT administration had made a departmental inquiry in the matter. After which the four professors were found violating the service rules, considering them as accused. Later, Professor Subrahmanyan took the matter to the High Court and then to the Supreme Court and he pleaded with the court to take legal action against the accused professors.
