Lakhs of youths are working hard to get jobs in Indian Railways. But the surprising thing is that more than 3 lakh posts are lying vacant in the Railways.

The number of candidates preparing to get jobs in Indian Railways in the country is in lakhs. Indian Railway More than three lakh posts are lying vacant. Its information has come to the fore in response to an RTI. It has been learned through RTI that out of 14,75,623 posts of Group C in Railways, more than 3.11 lakh posts are lying vacant. Apart from this, out of 18,881 gazetted cadre posts sanctioned, 3,018 posts are lying vacant. All these posts are lying vacant in different departments of the Railways.
According to the TOI report, most of the 39 railway zones and production units are facing shortage of people. Out of 3,11,438 vacant posts in Group C, jobs for Level 1 category employees are included. These include trackperson, pointsman, electrical works, signal and telecom assistant jobs. In response to this RTI, it has not been told that when the candidates will be appointed on these posts. The date of issuing the notification in this regard has also not been given.

‘Government not willing to recruit’
On the condition of anonymity, a leader of the North Central Railway Employees Union (NCRES) said, “Most of the vacant posts in Group C include engineers, technicians, clerks, guards/train managers, station masters, ticket collectors, etc.” This directly affects the day-to-day functioning of the Railways.
“The issue of vacant posts remains a common issue in every ‘Permanent Negotiating Mechanism’ (PNM) meeting with officials at the divisional, zonal and railway headquarters levels. Administrative officials also know that the problem arises due to lack of workforce. But the government is not taking interest in the recruitment of permanent employees. He is more interested in privatization of railways.

The government is also worried about the vacant posts
A senior Railway Traffic Service officer said, “The large number of vacant posts in Group C is affecting the operations of the Indian Railways. This is also a matter of concern for the Railways. Currently, the government is expanding the railway network, and high-speed rail operation has become a necessity. To advance the operation security and public, the vacant posts should be filled in a time bound manner.
