According to an official statement, it will be a global center for trading in rough and polished diamonds as well as jewellery. It has been said in the statement that it will become a hub for import and export, i.e. buying and selling of bars from India. That complex will have jewelery mall and international banking facilities for retail jewelery business. SDB media convenor Dinesh Navadiya had recently said in a statement that many diamond traders, including Mumbai based diamond traders, have already taken possession of their offices which were allotted by the management after the auction.
Who is the owner?
Surat Diamond Exchange (SDB) is a non-profit exchange, registered under Section 8 of the Companies Act 2013. SDB is part of Diamond Research and Mercantile (Dream) City. The credit for this initiative goes to Govind Dholakia, owner of SRK Diamonds, Savji Bhai Dholakia, founder of RK Diamonds and Padma Shri awardee, and Lalji Bhai Patel, owner of Dharmanandan Diamonds. These were the three diamond traders who dreamed of making Surat a diamond hub in 2013-14. These people went to the then CM Anandiben with this idea and she then agreed to work for it. Then a board was formed for this, of which Mahesh Gadhvi was made the CEO.
Let us tell you that this building has been built for the establishment and promotion of Diamond Bourse in Surat and Gujarat. Mahesh Gadhvi told that defeating the Pentagon was not part of his objective. Rather, the size of the project is determined by demand. He further told that many people had bought offices here before the building was constructed. Former Chief Minister of Gujarat Anandiben Patel had laid the foundation of SDB and Dream City project in February 2015.

At the beginning of the construction of this Diamond Hub, the rent here was Rs 3500 per square foot, now it has reached Rs 8500 per square foot.
