They do not have hands and eyes, which are necessary to make Aadhaar card. Now good news has come for those people.
In case fingerprints are not available, enrollment for Aadhaar can be done using iris scan. Not only this, those who do not have both. They will also be issued Aadhaar card. The statement comes after Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar intervened to ensure the enrollment of Josimol P Jose, a woman in Kerala who could not enroll for Aadhaar as she did not have fingerprints.
What did the government say?
The statement said that a team of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) visited Jose’s house in Kumarakam in Kottayam district of Kerala on the same day and generated his Aadhaar number. Chandrashekhar said an advisory has been sent to all Aadhaar Seva Kendras directing that Aadhaar should be issued to people like Jose by taking alternative biometrics or others with blurred fingerprints or similar disability. A person who is eligible for Aadhaar but is unable to provide fingerprints can enroll using only the iris scan. Similarly, an eligible person whose eyeballs cannot be taken for any reason can enroll using his fingerprint only.

According to the statement, an eligible person who is unable to provide both finger and iris biometrics can enroll without submitting either of them. It states that the name, gender, address and date and year of birth of the person who is unable to provide finger and iris biometrics are captured with the available biometrics, while the missing biometrics are highlighted in the enrollment software. . Further a photograph is taken in the manner prescribed in the guidelines to highlight the non-availability of fingers or iris or both and the supervisor at the Aadhaar Enrollment Center has to validate such enrollment as exceptional.
