Talking about the import of electric vehicle, if the value of a vehicle is less than $ 40 thousand i.e. 30 lakhs, then import duty of 60 percent is levied on importing that car from abroad. If the price of the car is more than $40,000, then 100% import duty is levied.

Musk wants to bring it from China and sell it in India
Talking about Asia, Tesla has a manufacturing unit in Shanghai city of China. Musk wants the Indian government to import Tesla cars from China and allow them to be sold in the market. In future, he will consider setting up a manufacturing unit. The government is not in favor of it. According to the Economic Times report, Tesla is also considering setting up Asia’s second manufacturing unit in Indonesia except India.
Government’s big plan regarding electric vehicle
The government has an ambitious plan regarding electric vehicles. In such a situation, Tesla becomes an important brand whose identity is global. To promote electric vehicles, the government is running many schemes related to manufacturing. Apart from this, many types of discounts are also being given to electric car buyers. There is also a FAME-2 scheme of 10 thousand crores in this. Apart from this, there is a production linked incentive scheme of 18 thousand crores, which benefits the manufacturers. The government hoped that Tesla would join the PLI scheme, but it did not happen.
Giga factory is in Shanghai city of China
Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has clearly said that Tesla will not be allowed to bring a car manufactured in China and sell it in the Indian market. If the company sets up a manufacturing plant in India, then it will get many benefits. Currently, Tesla’s Giga factory in Shanghai is the closest to India.
