India's dream of its own semiconductor manufacturing is now going to come true. In the cabinet meeting on Thursday, the government approved 3 projects of semiconductor manufacturing. Of these, two projects are of Tata Group, while one project is of a Japanese company. Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav gave information about this entire plan while talking to the press after the cabinet meeting.
In this meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, decisions were also taken on the issue of PM-Surya Ghar Yojana and fertilizer subsidy to farmers. Under PM-Surya Ghar Yojana, 1 crore houses of the country will get 300 units of free electricity along with a source of earning. The government will spend Rs 75,021 crore on this scheme.

Semiconductor plant to be set up in Dholera, Gujarat
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that a total investment of Rs 1.26 lakh crore is estimated in the three semiconductor units going to be set up in the country. Among the projects approved by the government, CG Power will set up a semiconductor plant in Gujarat in collaboration with Japan's Renesas Electronics Corp and Thailand's Stars Microelectronics.

Whereas Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Private Limited will set up a semiconductor plant in Morigaon, Assam with an investment of Rs 27,000 crore. Whereas Tata Electronics Pvt. of Tata Group will set up a semiconductor plant in Gujarat in collaboration with Taiwan's Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp.
Projects will start in 100 days
After getting the proposals approved by the Union Cabinet, Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the construction of all three plants will start in the next 100 days. Tata Electronics Private Limited will invest about Rs 91,000 crore on the plant in Dholera, Gujarat. Similarly, Tata Semiconductor Assembly and Test Private Limited will set up a plant in Assam with an investment of Rs 27,000 crore. Whereas CG Power's plant will be set up in Sanand, Gujarat. An investment of Rs 7,600 crore is expected on this.
Semiconductors manufactured in these plants will be supplied to 8 sectors. Not only this, more than 300 crore chips will be manufactured in the country every year from all these plants. Right now India's emphasis will be on assembling semiconductors. Ashwini Vaishnav says that India will soon become self-reliant in the matter of fabrication also.
