india ncap crash test
- Bharat NCAP will give score according to the safety features available in the car along with the safety of both adult and child. According to Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, to achieve 5 star rating from Bharat NCAP, vehicles must have at least six airbags.
- While the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) test will check the impact on the adult and the driver in case of a collision, the Child Occupant Protection (COP) test will focus mostly on ISOFIX seats and airbag activation for the safety of children.
- India NCAP will also evaluate the safety assist features of all vehicles to determine the final rating of the crash-tested car.
- According to the agency, if a vehicle scores at least four marks in AOP and nine marks in COP, then it will pass the test with a one-star rating.
- To achieve a 5 star rating, a vehicle has to score at least 27 marks in each category and 41 marks in total.
Difference between Bharat NCAP and Global NCAP
Global NCAP 2013 tests cars under the Latin NCAP protocol. At the same time, during the car test in India NCAP, Indian driving conditions and rules will be kept in mind.
The car needs a 5 star safety rating (for adults) in Global NCAP and must score at least 34 marks in the test. In which 16 numbers will be for front crash test, 16 numbers for side impact and 2 numbers for seatbelt reminder.
At the same time, for 5 star rating in Bharat NCAP, the vehicle will have to score at least 27 points for adult safety and at least 41 points for child safety.
