Indian -origin leader Johran Mamdani has won the primary of the post of Democratic Mayor of New York City. The count of the new votes announced on Tuesday confirmed his shocking victory, defeating former governor Andrew Kuomo. Now Mamdani will contest for the general election. The Associated Press announced the victory of Mamdani after the results of the city's ranking choice voting count.
Mamdani's victory was widely expected, as he took an edge after the voting ended a week ago, and the ranks of the city were just a little behind the 50 percent votes to avoid counting under the city's rankd choice voting model.
Now Mamdani will field in general elections
This system also allows other priorities of voters to be counted, if their top candidate is out of the election. Mamdani, who announced victory on the primary night of 24 June, will now field in the general election, including current Mayor Eric Adams as well as independent candidates Jim Walden and Republican Curtis Sleeva.

Mamdani born to Indian parents
