Ranbir Kapoor is playing Lord Ram in the grand mythological saga Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari. Alongside him, Sai Pallavi will be seen as Sita, and Kannada star Yash will play Ravana. The first part of this action epic is scheduled for a Diwali 2026 release.
Ranbir Kapoor Gets Highest-Ever Paycheque For Ramayana?
As per reports, Ranbir is now the highest-paid actor in the franchise. He’s reportedly charging Rs 75 crore for each instalment, taking his total to Rs 150 crore. This will be his first time stepping into a mythological character, far from his usual romantic and action-hero roles.
KGF 2 star Yash is also co-producing Ramayana under his banner Monster Mind Creations. He’s said to be charging Rs 50 crore per part, making his total earnings Rs 100 crore. Reports suggest his role in Part 1 will be limited, but will grow bigger in the second part.
Sai Pallavi is reportedly earning Rs 12 crore for the project, split equally across the two films. Fans are excited to see her bring the beloved character to life alongside Ranbir and Yash.
The film also features a star-studded ensemble including Sunny Deol, Lara Dutta, Rakul Preet Singh, Ravi Dubey, Kajal Aggarwal, Arun Govil, and Amitabh Bachchan.
Chinmayi Sripada Defends Ranbir Amid Casting Controversy
Ranbir’s casting as Lord Ram hasn’t been smooth sailing online. Some people have pointed to his old interview from 2011, where he openly said he enjoys eating beef. This has sparked debates, considering the religious significance of Lord Ram.
Singer Chinmayi Sripada spoke in support of Ranbir on X, resharing a post that questioned his casting. She wrote, “A babaji who uses the name of God can be a rapist and he can keep getting parole to get votes in bhakt India – however what someone eats is a big problem.”

Despite the controversy, many still praised Ranbir Kapoor’s casting as Lord Ram, saying he fits the role well. But the debate over personal choices and screen roles isn’t dying down anytime soon.
Jointly produced by Namit Malhotra’s DNEG and Prime Focus Studios, Ramayana is one of Indian cinema’s most ambitious projects. The first part is aiming for a Diwali 2026 release, with Part 2 coming out on Diwali 2027.
