In a major achievement under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), the Rajasthan government led by Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has successfully allotted over 53,321 homes to the homeless in just 1.5 years of governance.

According to an official update shared by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on social media, this accomplishment significantly surpasses the performance of the previous administration, which managed to allot only 39,428 houses over a full 5-year term.
Comparing Performance: 1.5 Years vs. 5 Years
The current administration claims to have expedited housing delivery to the urban poor through proactive implementation, improved monitoring, and streamlined processes under PMAY-U. The slogan “1.5 Years vs. 5 Years” is being used by the Rajasthan government to highlight what it sees as a stark difference in governance efficiency.
A Step Toward ‘Housing for All’
The push under PMAY-U is part of the broader vision of “Housing for All,” which aims to provide pucca houses with water, sanitation, and electricity to all eligible urban families. CM Bhajanlal Sharma emphasized that the state is committed to uplifting the urban poor and accelerating access to essential housing infrastructure.
The government also reiterated its commitment to transparency and efficient delivery of welfare schemes, using real-time tracking, digital tools, and beneficiary verification systems to ensure fairness and accountability.
With such rapid progress, Rajasthan is positioning itself as one of the top-performing states in terms of PMAY-U implementation, setting an ambitious tone for the remainder of the government’s term.
Looking ahead, the Bhajanlal Sharma-led government plans to expand the scope of housing development, aiming to cross the 1 lakh homes mark by the end of its term. Officials say additional townships, vertical housing models, and rental housing for migrants are also being planned under future phases.
