Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on his longest diplomatic visit yet, with the goal of bolstering India’s global presence and strategic partnerships. Ahead of the upcoming BRICS Summit in Brazil, the Prime Minister will first travel to Ghana, where he is scheduled to meet President John Dramani Mahama to enhance bilateral cooperation and explore new avenues of collaboration.
During this high-profile visit, PM Modi will also address the Parliament of Ghana on July 3, a moment of pride for India as it reflects growing mutual respect and strategic alignment between the two nations. India and Ghana are expected to sign key agreements focusing on trade, infrastructure, healthcare, and digital technology.
Five-Nation Diplomatic Mission
PM Modi’s eight-day diplomatic mission will cover five nations — Ghana, Trinidad & Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia. The visit holds special significance not just for India’s foreign policy, but also for the global leadership stage, especially with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin expected to skip this year’s BRICS summit.
After Ghana, PM Modi will proceed to Trinidad & Tobago on July 3–4, where he will hold talks with President Christine Carla and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, focusing on diaspora engagement and economic ties.
Next, in Argentina, PM Modi will engage with President Javier Milei for strategic discussions aimed at improving cooperation in energy, agriculture, and technology. This leg of the tour is also expected to revive momentum in South-South partnerships
Strengthening India’s BRICS Influence
The visit culminates in Brazil, where PM Modi will represent India at the BRICS Summit in the absence of two founding leaders — a situation that enhances India’s strategic weight in the group. Brazil has already shown interest in pursuing a defence deal with India, making this visit all the more pivotal for bilateral cooperation in the defence and security sectors.
India’s leadership in BRICS is expected to focus on counter-terrorism, trade expansion, and technology collaboration. PM Modi’s assertive diplomacy might also involve directly addressing cross-border terrorism and exposing Pakistan’s involvement in recent attacks, aligning global sentiment with India’s security concerns.
